I am going to attempt to clone Surly Brewing's SurlyFest seasonal beer. I'm having trouble reaching 14L for the color with the stated ingredents. Any idea how I might go about raising the color to 14L?

You can read more about it here: http://www.surlybrewing.com/beer/surly-beer-seasonal-beers.html

From thier website:
SurlyFest

A traditional Oktoberfest bier from Surly? Nein! If you want one of those, grab your passport and head over to Munchen (bring us back some pretzels.) SurlyFest is brewed with three different types of Rye and a single variety of American Hops. Malted Rye, Flaked Rye, and Crystal Rye impart a distinctive biscuit flavor to the lush Vienna Malt body, and dry-hopping with Sterling Hops adds bright, floral hop aromas. A single hop, dry-hopped, rye lager bier? Ja!

I'm trying to come up with a clone as well. I think you need more rye. You want it to be about 20-25% of your mash

I brewed the above this weekend, but actually dropped the crystal rye to 1/2 pound. I'll start there and keep bumping it up until I get it dialed in.

I've just aquired a few cans of SurlyFest so I can have something to compare with.

I found a recipe on another site, here is what he had for the malt bill for a 6 gallon batch:
6.5 lbs of Vienna Malt
5.0 lbs of Pilsner Malt
15oz of Melanoiden Malt
8 oz of Rye Malt
8 oz of Flaked Rye
2 oz of Rye Crystal

I'm actally curious to whether that recipe is close or not. That was his third time brewing it so I'm starting low on the Rye. Surlyfest is a house favorite and we go through several cases per year. If I could brew something close that will be excellent. If nothing else I will have some excellent beer.
