I'm taking my keg to a welder tomorrow, and I have a few questions about the connection to the ball valve. How far should the ball valve be from the side of the kettle?

I'm worried that if it's too close to the side the flame will damage the ball valve. Does anyone use a nipple as a spacer? What length?

Thanks,

Matt

Have the welder weld on some small squares of stainless sheet metal (or scraps from the cut top) to the drain holes on the bottom of the keg. This will prevent any heat from coming up. Other than that, there really should not be any problem with flame reaching your ball valve. The bottom of the keg should contain the flame.
