Why did my brew kit come with a racking cane and an auto siphon?

I was just curious why I got both? I was under the impression that they were used for the same purpose, the only difference being that the auto siphon made it easier to create the siphon. Am I wrong about this?
 
You will want to control the location of both ends of your siphon when you transfer a beer.

The auto siphon will be the inlet (and siphon starter) and the racking cane will be the outlet so that you don't have a hose just floating around all over the place as the beer transfers.
