Adding Vanilla?

So I was interested in adding a slight vanilla taste to an AG oatmeal stout recipe. Right now in order to achieve this, I'm looking to add two vanilla beans into the secondary fermenter. Any advice on if this would be the stage to do it? Should I be boiling the vanilla, or letting the beans sit in vodka to extract some of the flavor first?

I just added 4 vanilla beans that soaked in 4 ounces of Jack Daniels. The JD soaked up a ton of vanilla flavor. We'll see..
