I am considering upgrading from 5 gallon batches. Instead of immediately thinking 10 gallons I started thinking about 15!!! Anyone use a 80qt kettle to do full keg size batches?? I'm also wanting to go electric as well, just start out with elements in the HLT/BK, not fully automated or anything just yet though. I could do both 110v or 220v. Thoughts?

Thanks

I think you will need a larger pot then 80 qt to end up with 15 gallons of finished beer. You could probably make it work but a 30 gallon pot would be much better.

I use a 15 gallon pot to make 10 gallons finished beer and it's way tight. I'd much prefer a 20 gallon pot.

I just bought 25 gallon pots, and they are great. 10 Gallon batched are a breeze. I also did a 5 gallon barley wine a couple weeks ago. I will be brewing my first 15 gallon batch this weekend and beersmith says I will be using 18.50 gallons for the mash.

I us a 20 gallon pot and I boil off 2 g in an hour. There's no reason fo me to think my pot is too small for a 15 g batch. Sure, 3g isn't a lot of room for boilovers, but I keep an eye out for boilovers and never have a problem. Yes, it's tight, but the frequency I'm gonna do a 15g batch makes it worth the worry. 20g bk is perfect for 10 g batches though.
