Made a yeast starter yesterday, the normal White Labs California yeast.

Today it has spilled over, is there any risk with it spilling over? Contamination. I am just using alu foil.

No sharp smell like vinegar that I can tell.

It smells different than the California V Ale yeast.

Seems like it is bubbling just fine.

I had the same situation occur using the Belgian Wit Yeast from White Labs (WLP-400). I went to work and when I returned it was everywhere. I used a 1/2 gallon jug and a 1 quart of started, so I had what I thought was plenty of space. Must have been the small amount of yeast nutrient I used in the wort boil for my starter because it filled the airlock and sprayed all over the place. It never blew the airlock off though, so it was not exposed to any nasties.

My Belgian Wit fermented well and it is currently in the keg waiting to carb up.

Salute! :mug:
