The rhizome is a fancy word for root.

You plant the rhizome and you will get an identical clone to the plant it was cut from. as the root system grows from your rhizome you will then be able to cut a new rhizome from your original one and thus create a new hop plant identical to the first one you planted. Clear as mud?

Are there any varieties that are considered better than others for backyard planting? I'm looking at doing a cascade and an amarillo, as I live about 30 minutes from the yakima valley, but wondering if there are others I should look at as well.

Hops need basically full sun and lots of water. I live in New England and they grow like weeds, despite the fact it often snows into April. My impression is that these are hearty plants that will grow anywhere
