I have a AHBS Double Chocolate Stout in primary now (1-week). I was wondering if it is recommended to put this in secondary? My thought is that it really doesn't matter since the stout is dark anyway and clearing is not important. Am I on the right track?

Secondary is also useful for aging, not just clearing. Do the instructions that came with it recommend an aging phase? What was the OG? If it has an OG higher than ~1.045 I would want to give it at least a few weeks of aging time.

Secondary aging will help reduce sediment in your final bottles/keg. In the secondary both yeast and tannins will drop out of the beer which will improve the overall flavor.

Cheers,
Brad
