To bottle, can, box or pouch?

Here is an interesting story about what gets put into what kind of "bottle" in the beer/wine/spirits industry (and a couple others). An interesting read about how different markets are looking at different things, but all could essentially be interchangable.

My father was a packaging engineer and he said packaging has three purposes:

1. Keep stuff in. Generally the stuff the label says is in the package.
2. Keep stuff out. Everything else.
3. Keep the idiots in the government happy or at least give them the chance to fake doing something to rationalize their jobs. This after he designed a seven-layer bag for an agricultural product. The inside layer did #1, the outside layer did #2 and the other five layers were there to cover #3.
