If your regulators have left hand threads, then they are not the right kind to put in series.
You need something like these regulator bodies:
Gen. purpose single stage line regulator - Regulators - Supplies - 6PHD2 : Grainger Industrial Supply
Left hand threading is typically reserved for flammables...
You need something like these regulator bodies:

If both regulators are left hand threads something like this may work.
