I know I saw a thread here a couple days ago where one guy had 10+ Sankey kegs en route to his home and was looking for ways he could use them. Can any of you guys like this help the rest of us out t find some kegs? I've looked all over the place for a keg for a kettle conversion and the ONLY keg available locally the guy wants 140 bucks for it. I've called all the local breweries, and all the metal recyclers within a days drive from me, and nothing. I've asked dozens of local bars to sell me one for the cost of deposit and not a chance.
Anyone out there that can find these easily or have some sort of supply for them want to sell some to the guys that can't find them?

I used "Craigs list pro" for the iPhone.
It's a program that will do a search of selected cities and send push alerts when it matches your search terms. It took several weeks and I had to get alerted on a miller light sign shaped like a keg top so many times I almost bought it just so the guy would stop re-listing it. Finally a guy a couple of hours away listed two kegs he dug out of an old barn and had a third when I got there for 20 bucks a piece. They were kinda rough but they work.

I scoured CL for a long time before I decided to post a "WTB Sankey Keg" post on there. Got a response in about two weeks. One is in great shape, one not so much, but holds water, and works well as a HLT.

+1 on Craigs List. I posted a wanted ad and had three kegs in a week or two. Two were $20, one was $25.

+1 one on Craigslist also. Got a 20 lb CO2 tank w/regulator, one ball lock and one pin lock keg with all disconnects and tubing (plus an extra set of ball locks) for $70! Kegs are in better condition than those I got with my system from kegconnection even. Tank will need hydro when it runs out but still a great deal. Just have to act fast on brew stuff it seems!

I looked on Craiglist for weeks and never found one. I was in upstate PA in a little town where my monster-in-law lives and found a beer distributor down the street who will sell you one for 30 bucks. I bought two... Other than that, I had absolutley no luck finding them!

I'm in Canada living in a little town of about 1000 people. Craigslist is unheard of here.

Do you have family or friends who live in bigger cities? If so, maybe check CL in their neck of the woods and see if they're willing to complete the transaction for you and just pick up the keg next time you see them...

I found a manager at a larger local liquor store and explained exactly what I wanted (keg for the cost of deposit). He quickly escorted me into the back room where he had a pile of about a dozen legs. All were odd ball types that his staff had purchased from customers via a returned deposit but the store had no relationship with the brewer. They were stuck with em. I promised not to share his name and gave him $30 and left with a new keg. He got his investment back and freed up some storage. Win-win.

I'll try that idea, but like I said this is an area of small population. I've never seen a keg in possession of the general public, any keg I've ever seen was at a bar/restaurant.

Call your local liquor stores. There is one by the U of MN that has a bunch and sells them for $25.

If anyone can find kegs like this and wouldn't mind buying one and shipping it, I'd be more than glad to pay for the keg, shipping, and a little extra for your time.
