I am interested in making my own yeast from scratch from fermenting fruit.

Is this advised? Does it yield good results ? What is the process ? Do homebrewers do this often? Why or why not?

I would be very interested in anyone with any experience.

I've washed yeast before but I'm talking about starting from scratch.

There are several people around here who harvest wild yeast, but the process is a bit different than collecting fermenting fruit. Here's an article detailing some of the basics-

If you're looking for strains similar to what's commercially available for beer, you're likely going to be disappointed. If you're into funky wild ales and sours, then this is just what you're looking for.

Awesome.

Thanks so much guys. Always get helpful (and funny in some cases) responses super quickly.

Here's to HBT!
