As the weather gets nicer in MA, my potted hops are sprouting like crazy indoors. I'm totally ready to put them in the ground but I haven't lived here long enough to have a good sense of spring temps. When it's the best time to plant the hops?

[Kent goldings are second years, cascades and centennials are this year's rhizomes]

You can plant as soon as the ground can be worked without turning it into tapioca. My beds are still buried under a foot of snow, but last year around this time when I pulled the mulch back the crowns had small sprouts going already...

Cheers!

The second years are about 2' tall, I'm worried it will all die back when it gets down in the 30s at night. On the other hand, they need to get trained up something this week.
