So I'm still pretty new at this, I've made 20 gallons so far. I know that primary fermentation typically takes between 4 and 7 days, but what determines this? I started a new brew 3 days ago, and the air lock is barely bubbling anymore, though it was going strong the first 2 days. I don't think my yeast died or anything, but I just wanted to get some reassurance.

Quite right. Fermentation time varies significantly according to several variables - type of yeast, composition of wort, and temperature among, I'm sure, several others. The best way to tell if fermentation is truly finished or just stuck is to take a gravity reading. I know it's a pain at first, but learning to use a hydrometer will serve you well throughout your brewing career.
