I only want to control one heatstick for my mash. I use a BIAB method in a 10g Coleman cooler. I have a pump for recirculation and I use the full volume of water in the mash with no sparge (Aussie BIAB style). The BK is gas and I'm not planning to go all electric. Is there a better or similar choice for less money?

How about a Ranco or Johnson A419?

Does the JC A419 come with an immersible probe? I have a JC that I bought years ago for regulating a chest freezer. It looks like the one that Northern Brewer has but mine has a 20-80F range and the one at NB says 30-80. I'm pretty sure the probe on that one can't be immersed.

Can't answer your question, but I saw basically this unit as part of a piece of equipment on Iron Chef America the other day and thought "wow - awesome brew equipment in that kitchen!"
