How hard is it to get yeast from "bottle fermented" beers such as the trappist beer Chimay for example? I was thinking of doing this for my belgian ale? Any steps I should fallow and is this overall a good or bad idea?

There was a lenthy discussion of this a while back. Try searching for "stealing yeast" or something along those lines.

For a start, not all bottle conditioned beers contain the actual fermenting yeast it was made with, but instead they use a bottling yeast.
Might be worth your while to buy a liquid yeast for the style you intend on brewing.

SNP and Chimay use the same strain. can't remember where I read it I'll try to find link ..it listed a bunch of beers that use the same strain for conditioning
