Holy ****. That's phenomenal. I can't believe that the Secret Service didn't notice, and that the guy (whoever he was) wasn't shot dead.

It's scary that your average Joe Albanian has access to the Prez.

If you're an optimist. He dropped it and the SS picked it up.
If you're a cynic. It was stolen and it was a cover up to protect the officials in a country that reveres him.

Albania issued three postage stamps with Bush's picture and the Statue of Liberty, renamed a street in front of parliament in his honor, awarded him the highest National Flag medal, and the Fushe Kruje town council declared him an honored citizen.

The bigger question is, what kind of bribes did he send to the Albanian people to get them to worship him like they do? I mean, it's pretty widely accepted that he's one of the worst presidents in our history (and I say that as a libertarian, not a bush-bashing liberal). Most foreign countries' people revile him. Most places he goes, he inspires vitriolic hatred. Most places there are mass protests when he comes into town. But he goes to some obscure Mediterranean nation and gets worshiped like he's the second coming?

Either he's been using our tax dollars to bribe the country via gifts and development and assistance, or the SS hired a crowd of people to cheer him for the cameras.

I don't mean to be so cynical, but, really, think about it for a minute. They don't put the doofus on a stamp and honor him and try to touch him in the street just because he's president of the United States.

Actually it is Mickey giving the one finger salute and on the back it says "From Dick with Love, Let's go hunting!"

Actually, a co-worker says he saw the footage and another editorial that says he took his watch off and put it in his pocket. Mystery solved.

Watch the clip. His right hand never goes anywhere near his left wrist between the time you can see the watch and the time that you can see that it's gone. George W. Bush is many things, but David Blaine he ain't. It is possible that that his watch got knocked loose from the hand grabbing and that it fell to the ground (and was picked up later) - that seems like the most likely scenario to me.

I still want to believe, though, that someone ripped him off!

IBTL :D

I'm so glad he rushed home to bring back his immigration bill to shove down our thoats.

From Drudge:

TONY SNOW DENIES: 'No, it was not [stolen]. It was placed in his pocket, and I believe your network has actually looked through the tape carefully and has ascertained the same. But, no, the President put it in his pocket, and it returned safely home.'

I was reading somewhere else and someone said that it is common that he takes off his watch and ring before greeting crowds.

Well....if nobody else will try, I'll give it a wirl...The Albanian people are so happy to see an American president because Bush is seen as the same as Clinton who was our president at the time of the Croatian/Milosevic ethnic cleansing episode in the 90's. Clinton, along with the U.N. stepped in and helped to free the Albanians from oppression and genocide under the rule of the war criminal Milosevic. So, these people are simply showing there gratitude to the leader of a country that made it possible to have there sovereignty.

Ok, ok I understand that's just one way to look at it but most of the pieces fall into place. (Bush can't get the gratitude in the mess he made so he's gotta go somewhere it was done right) :tank: TeeHee!:tank:
Do withi t wha tuwill I d ont give afark!

W can no longer say, "Not on my watch." because he lost his watch.

And citing Drudge and Snow futher confirms the conspiracy theory. Produce the watch, George.

Though, in all seriousness, given his steady Nixon-esque approval ratings, I'd guess that discussing W's shortcomings is becoming less and less controversial. But I'm still holding back as much as I can, if for nothing else than your sake, bird.

I do think that it's shocking how low his approval ratings have gone; he's clearly pissed off lots of people who would traditionally been considered hard-core Republicans. It's going to be real interesting as the election cycle starts to heat up...

Say what you will, but there are lots of us that think W is a good man and believe Presidents should be respected. I could list his many accomplishments and debate you all day long, but I come to HBT to get a break from politics and talk beer. I hope I’m not coming off as too aggressive, but I do honestly get tired of people bashing my President (even with all his faults). Instead of bashing the man or making up conspiracy theories, I wish people would just give their ideas on how to do things better.
That said, it sure looks like his watch was stolen to me. I wonder if it was some funky gadget filled watch the secret service makes him wear. It probably cost us taxpayers a mint.

Relax, Fifelee. I'm not "bashing" anyone. Just questioning how a wildly unpopular president gets worshiped like a god in Albania. I realize that there are still many people out there who will support their party's president through thick and thin, like the many idiot dems who worshiped Clinton through his various mini-wars (but now despise Bush for going to war), but the fact remains that GWB is wildly unpopular (opinion polls in the 20's). I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion or incite a stupid political argument, but look around you, watch the news, read the papers. It's becoming more and more acceptable to acknowledge the failures of this administration in public as common accepted knowledge. Again, I'm not trying to start a debate, just stating my observations of the news/punditry.

Regardless, I've never understood the whole "I came here to talk beer, not politics, and look what you've made me do" thing. You're certainly free to ignore any posts you don't like, nobody is forcing you to read or reply to anything. This thread is in the "General Chit Chat" section---if you hadn't noticed, very few of the conversations in this section are about beer. I could understand your objection if this thread was posted in the "Recipes and Ingredients" section, or something.

Anyway, no ill will either way, I'm not trying to stir up anything, just making some observations and trying to have a civil discussion. I mean no disrespect, and I don't begrudge you're sticking by your president. RDWHAHB! :mug:

Don’t worry. I am very relaxed. Drinking some Belgium’s right now.

I hope you aren’t including me as one of those who blindly “support their party's president through thick and thin”. I do excessively “watch the news and read the papers”. I even have a political blog. As unpopular you think Bush is the congress still has a worse rating. Plus many leaders who have had to make tough decisions are very unpopular at the time. In 1940, 70% of Americans opposed Roosevelt entering the war. Lincoln had terrible rating during much of his administration. Reagan averaged about 50%, but over 73% of us approve of him now. I honestly think most of Bush’s problem isn’t his policies as he has many great accomplishments. It is the fact that he can’t speak for sht (and yes the war hasn’t helped, but most the dems voted for it to). Sadly opinion polls are more like high school popularity contests. The good-looking articulate guy who does nothing (Clinton) is popular and the quite kid who gets good grades is picked on.

As for why Albanians like Bush, uuurang had a great explanation a few posts back. It wasn’t a conspiracy or a bribe. Those people still have oppression fresh in their memories and when they see Bush the see someone who stands up for freedom. In my opinion the rest of world, who you say revile Bush, have forgotten how precious freedom is as they willing slip back into the Socialist/Communist mindset doomed to repeat history. I honestly could careless what they think.

x2. And here I though I was the only person on HBF that liked President Bush. I thought this was an interesting article http://frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=28304

Sorry I could not resist to post in here.

It's good to know by your own admission you'd never get upset or offended by a thread and ask for it to be censored. Or are there some cases where you feel the censorship would be okay? Because I seem to recall you requesting something like that...

Hey, If this thread is going to be locked, lets get back to the point.

Over the last few days there's been a video from a different angle that suggests that he put the watch in his pocket.

I choose to ignore that evidence and pimp the original video. His watch was stolen. We have video evidence!

{Ignoring evidence...making untrue accusations...I just want to see how that feels}

News of the weird says that he put his hands behind his back and a secret serviceman knew to take it off of him.
