When putting the extract in late would that apply to both Dried and liquid extract? I've got 5.5 lbs of Dried. Should I go half in the beginning and the balance at 15 min? Thanks for any help. Probably a stupid ?

I would save the LME for last since it is darker already.

Keep your wort to about 1 lb to 1 gal of water for the 45-60 min boil and add the rest of it at the end.

Add the DME 1 lb at a time until it dissolves then slowly add the LME while stirring.

Both of these will reduce the temperature of the wort.

I wouldn't worry too much about hitting gravity per a recipe. As long as it's within the range of the style then you're good.

There are too many variables like amount of water and temperature adjustment for that equation. ;)
