Seems like one of the big hurdles in system automation is how to determine how transfer X gallons from the HLT to the MLT, and other volume specific processes.

Flow meters are expensive
ultrasonic level sensors are expensive.

I found this:

assuming you could find one for lower pressures, you could use this to regulate the flow out of the pump....

therefore volume would essentially be a function of time.

Just a thought i wanted to throw out there for you guys to mull around.

I don't think that would be as accurate as a $11, simple pressure sensor such as a Motorola MPX5010GS. Simply put a bulkhead coupler as low as possible in your vessel, run a 1/8" silicone tube from the output of the coupler to the sensor and you have it. No dip tube necessary. The sensor will output a voltage corresponding to the pressure which could be converted to volume.
