I have been making starters for my White Labs vials, I seem to get good results. The last two vials I bought were mail order and arrived, after waiting a day at someones house, at 72 degrees. Ice had melted. I started it today, and maybe I'm impatient, but after 7 hours, I expect a little action. What do you think?

thanks

I think lag time depends on a number of factors...but 7 hours is nothing to worry about. I have had vials pitched with out a starter take quite a while to get goin.

I think if you use WLP001, you should be using Safale 56 or Nottinghams. See Yuri's thread on using dry yeasts recently. Then you don't have to worry about it. As far as this batch, it is rare then I see anything from my starters, but I can smell when they have turned DME into beer or if it is still sweet.

Thank you. I now see a few bubbles coming up, it just looks different than the other yeasts. I will use it tonight.
