is maltodextrine a malted version of dextrine grains? i think this could be really obvious. but i'm not sure. if this is so, how much can i substitute for hte other. i have a brown ale recepie that has 8 oz malto dextrine in it. can i sub 8 oz dextrine grains? will the flavor increase because i'm using a grain instead of a powder?

Those are two completely different things. Maltodextrine is a unfermentable, complex sugar powder. Dextrines are too, which is what you'll get out of Dextrine malt (carapils). Adding this will add a bunch of body (mouthfeel) to the beer, and aid in head retention. Adding 8oz of carapils won't have the same effect, but you could get close by adding that same amount of flaked barley.
