On Friday I bottled my APA. I noticed my volume was a little bit higher than I remembered going in. A few minutes later I noticed my blowoff water was very low. After thinking about it for a bit I remembered that I had unplugged my heater after fermentation had been done for a week (no real good reason to do it, but just did).

Well it turns out that the drop in temperature from 67 to 52 (ambient in my basement) created some negative pressure in the carboy and sucked in some blowoff water. I estimate anywhere between 2-4 cups in a 4.25 gallon batch. Surprisingly, the beer didn't have any signs of the Star San taste. Also, I diluted some Star San solution and water to the amount that I estimated got in the beer and it's barely detectable. More proof to not fear the foam. Just wanted to share my amusing story. :)
