Side by side Fridge Mod

I recently came across a free and very nice side by fridge to put in the basement. A light bulb went off in my head that this would be a great fridge to use for fermentation. I was curious to know if anyone in the homebrew talk nation has every modified the fan to the fridge to control the temp in there but still allow the freezer to freeze? Most of the threads I read were looking to use both parts oft he fridge for fermenting/serving. Thanks for the help.
