Hello all. Having troubles working out a hop schedule for an aggressive RIS. :tank:

Rager Calculation has this recipe at 88 IBU. Tinseth has this recipe at undrinkable levels! Just trying to get a feel on whether I've got things at alright levels before I go and waste (or enjoy!) all these ingredients.

Russian Imperial Stout
OG 1.115
FG 1.029
Color 40 SRM
IBU 88?
Efficiency 70%
ABV 11.5%
Batch Size 5.0 gallons
Boil Size 2.8 gallons

Big Yeast Starter to be used.

Ingredients:

6lbs Dark DME (60min)
1lb Carapils (Added at 60min after initial Steep Mash @ 155 for 30min, @ 170 for 30 min)
8oz Chocolate Malt (Added at 60min after initial Steep Mash @ 155 for 30min, @ 170 for 30 min)
8oz Crystal 120L (Added at 60min after initial Steep Mash @ 155 for 30min, @ 170 for 30 min)
8oz Special B (Added at 60min after initial Steep Mash @ 155 for 30min, @ 170 for 30 min)
8oz Roasted Barley (Added at 60min after initial Steep Mash @ 155 for 30min, @ 170 for 30 min)
3lbs Amber LME (30min)
3lbs Amber LME (15min)

Hops:

1oz Warrior (15.8 AA%) @ 60min
1oz Yakima Magnum (13.5 AA%) @ 60min
0.5oz Glacier (6.0 AA%) @ 15min
0.5oz Glacier (6.0 AA%) @ 5min

Other:

1 Whirfloc Tab @ 15 min
1 Licorice Stick (0.7oz) at 0 min
8oz Maltodextrine @ Bottling Time, if needed

Yeast:

WLP007 Dry English Ale

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you

Looks fine to me. I use Tinseth and I got worse efficiency than I planned, so even more IBUs. According to beersmith, 105 IBUs for my RIS. It tasted great at bottling, now it's pretty sweet (I'm guessing the priming sugar, been a couple months though). Not overly bitter/hoppy to me. I think your's looks just fine.

Thank you. Have you posted your recipe?

No, but here it is. Waiting on it to age a few more months at least to see how it is then.

Yes I did 4 packets, haha. Huge blowoff in less than 12 hours.

Warrior and Magnum are both pretty mellow (not harsh like some other hops), I wouldn't worry about the bitterness.

What I would be worried about is the fermentability of your wort. Between the dark/amber extract, 2 lbs of crystal, roasted malts etc… you could end up with a very sweet beer. I would switch to light extract and get your color/flavor from the steeping grains
