I have an 8lb pack of liquid Pilsner syrup that I would like to use up to make something heavy on citra hops but still somewhat simple.

I came across skeezerpleezer's recipe for a zombie dust clone, and am curious if I could just substitute the Extra Light dry extract for my 8lb package of liquid pilsner and keep the rest of the recipe the same? And just to make sure I am reading this right, I add 1.75oz of citra at 60 minutes? Not entirely sure what first wort hop is referring to.

6.00 lb Extra Light Dry Extract (3.0 SRM) Dry Extract 70.6 %

0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain 5.9 %
0.50 lb Melanoiden Malt (20.0 SRM) Grain 5.9 %

6 lb of dry malt extract is equal to 7.5 lb liquid. So yes, you could sub your 8 lb of pilsner LME; your beer will just be a slightly higher gravity but no enough to worry about, at least in my opinion.

First wort hopping means you add the hop addition to the wort after you mash but before you boil. The idea is the hops steep for a time at the 150-160F range BEFORE the boil. So for extract, what you can do is add the FWH addition (.75 oz citra) as soon as you remove the steeping grains. Then start heating for the boil and as soon as the boil starts, add your 60 minute hop addition (1 oz citra).

I attached a printout from beersmith on this beer. I never had Zombie Dust but this is a monster hopped ale. 118 IBU at 7% alcohol.

Thanks for posting that, it is very helpful. I think I may have to tone it down a bit after looking it over.

Maybe something more in line with morebeer's clone, modified a bit:
My 8lbs of liquid Pilsner
4oz Maltodextrin (Necessary?)
.5lb Crystal 60L
.5lb Munich
.5lm Carapils

1oz Citra at 60
1oz Citra at 10
3oz Citra at 1
3oz Citra dry hopped for 3-5 days.

According to them, it should be 52-56 IBU
