Doing a little tester batch to see if we want to brew this on a bigger scale. Never have brewed with Rye before but we like big IPA's and we want a single hop beer. I know 20% Rye will give you a nice rye backbone feel. How's it look to you all?

2.5 gallon

4 lbs American 2 row pale
1.50 lbs rye
.5 lb crystal 60
.5 american wheat
.5 carapils

.5 simcoe 60
.25 simcoe 40
.25 simcoe 20
.25 simcoe 5
.25 simcoe 0
1-1.5 simcoe DH

OG: 1.074
FG: 1.019
IBU: 89
ABV: 7.1%
SRM: 11

What are your goals for this beer, as far as flavor, body, mouthfeel, etc? The wheat and carapils are usually added for head retention but that's not going to be an issue with the rye. My recipe would probably be more like 5lbs 2-row, 0.5lb C60, 1.5lb rye. Also, a 40min addition isn't giving you much in the way of flavor or aroma, so move it to 10m and up your dry hop to 2 oz.
