While shopping at target I noticed they sold a 40qt tamale/ seafood steamer aluminum pot for like $25, which is pretty cheap. I was wondering if this would be good for brewing?

yep thats what i use. Go to superior grocers if you have one near you and they have a 50 quart aluminum one for 25 bucks. Just make sure to fill it to the top and boil it to give it a nice oxidation layer and you will be good to go. Also, when cleaning, only use a soft sponge so you don't scratch off the layer.

You might be able to find a better deal at an Asian or Mexican grocery.

I use Aluminum for brewing, too. I clean it with the soft side of a sponge and then put it in a 350 oven for 15 minutes.

Do u put it in the oven to oxidize the pot? And is that a one time deal.
