I brewed a Scotish Ale kit over a week ago. I checked on it every nite and have never gotten the air lock to bubble. Opened the lid tonight and not much foam or trup on the top, but smelled like beer. I am going to take a gravity reading pretty quick. But I am nervous that nothing is happening on the top of the beer. Any suggestions or thoughts? Maybe I didn't pitch the Nottingham yeast correctly! Thanks for any help.

The lid may not have sealed all the way. If it looks and smells like beer, I think you're fine.

Time for a gravity reading and a taste! The krausen should be gone by now, don't expect one after a week. Sounds to me like the lid was not sealed or the airlock didn't have enough water/liquid or the seal around the airlock was not good. Sounds like the beer is good, though. Best of luck!
