Ever could be tough to figure. In recent history, I know you could pick up popular varieties like Cascade for ~$6/lb back before the shortage (2006/2007).

$8.75/lb for Cascade pellets on hopsdirect is not much more expensive than before the shortage

Hoooray! Doubt the prices will drop much still...

Have you seen the prices at Hopsdirect lately? If you're talking LHBS, of course they won't, if they're the only one in your region no competition leads to know no price drop. But if you're using over 4 oz's of a particular variety of hops? Order from hopsdirect or Niko, guaranteed good deal

I just picked up an 18-oz "pound" of Cluster from Hops Direct for $6.75. That's $0.375/ounce. Not too far off from the good ol' days that mattmcl recalls.

35 cents a ounce? When was that?

1988. There weren't LHBS back then, I used to get my supplies from this weird hippy store in the middle of nowhere, they sold bulk herbs, tofu and pagan ritual stuff. They had maybe a dozen cans of malt extract, some hops and dry yeast. My bottle capper was this thing you placed over the cap and bottle, and hit with a hammer to seal. 10% of the bottles broke. No bottle fillers either, just put your finger over the tube when switching bottles. It was pretty hardcore back then.
