Trying to make something like a Taddy porter with extract. Recipes I've found call for 10# Two row. What type and how much extract would be able to fill in?

Heres the recipe:

10.00 lb 2-Row -(6LBS DME, pale?)

1.00 lb Crystal 40°L
0.75 lb Chocolate Malt
0.25 lb Black Patent

4 oz molasses or black trecale -too much? and when to add?

1.5 oz Kent Goldings @ 60 minutes
0.5 oz Fuggles @ 20 minutes
0.5 oz Kent Goldings @ 5 minutes

Notty or White labs IrishAle, maybe burton?

I get 7.09 LME which is 5.67 DME ????

One thing to look into is if you do partial boils you need to increase the hops.

Grinder's math looks pretty good. IIRC, the rule of thumb is 1 lb grain ~= 0.8 lb LME ~= 0.6 lb DME

I would suggest using light or extra light. I only realized this too late, but there's no good reason to use the darker extracts because you get plenty of color from the specialty grains.

Would a late extract additon mean better hop utilization? Also have you any luck using trecale or molassy? If so how much and when did you add, was it potent in taste?
