I'm planning on building a single tier brew stand and have a 10 gallon igloo cooler for a MLT.

I was planning on having an HLT (converted Sanke), MLT (cooler), and a Keggle - in that order - with propane burners under the HLT and Keggle.

This raises some concerns for me in the use of a cooler as an MLT. How much residual heat will be coming from the burner?

I'm thinking of building a shield out of 1/16 sheet metal around each burner. Will that be enough, or will there still be enough residual heat from the top of the burner to cause harm to the cooler?

the burners generate a lot of heat so

It really depends on how close your cooler is to the flame

Having never melted one myself I can't tell the exact distance it take to melt a cooler

But I rarely see coolers used on single level brew stands usually people have keggles and 3 burners
