Beginner to AG, haven't made a yeast starter yet. (Hope it's ok in this section) I do 5 gallon batches. What do I NEED to begin making yeast starters? Size flask? DME. Is that it? Along with the liquid yeast pack I get for my beer? I've read the article and thread on yeast harvesting. Seems a lot of those kits come with stuff I already have. Any help is much appreciated.
Seems complicated to me, but so did a lot of the other stuff I've learned to do making beer! This site is great!

You will need at least a 2 liter container. A flask, empty pickle jar, or flower vase. For the shaking method of producing a starter the container just has to be large enough and easily sanitized. Use sanitized aluminum foil as a cover. If you use a stir plate for the starter then the container should have flat bottom. The following links have solid information.

A small digital scale, it is much more accurate to weigh the DME then to use a cup and you can also use it for your hop addition measurements:)

I love my stirstarter plate, good deal, stirred starters make much more yeast than shaking. I am also an O2 injection stone fan, found they vastly improved my fermentations.
