I was just given two fishtank air pumps. I don't know how powerful they are, but will this work to aerate my wort? Should I get an aeration stone? How long should I aerate using this (these) pumps?

I can't see why they would not work. Many people use them for that purpose. I would buy new hosing for them, an inline sterile filter and an airstone for better gas diffusion. All of these things can be bought from online home brew sites or possibly your LHBS.

Absolutely it will work. More than one Homebrew Store sells an Aquarium Pump Wort Aeration setup. You will need an HEPA Filter and Stainless Steel Stone. See below for sources:

Air Stone 2 Micron - Fermenting Equipment - High Gravity

Aeration - Fermenting Equipment - Equipment

Stainless Steel Aeration/Carbonation Stone. 0.5 micron*::*Aeration Equipment*::*Homebrewing Equipment*::*Bader Beer & Wine Supply, Inc.

Don't forget the HEPA filter. There are a number of sources for the HEPA filter also:

Thanks for all your help. Looks like I got a good deal. mnm129 and Sawdustguy I'll look around for the filter and aeration stone.
