we have noticed that when we do a 10 gal batch and then rack into the carboys, the two look very very different... one has more trub or crud than the other and etc... We have been filling one completely to the 5.5 gal mark and then filling the other up... anything left over we throw in the garden, unless its like a gallon or two. then we have been experimenting...

Os there another process you guys use... like putting in a half gallon, then switching carboys and repeat the process???

thanx

The first carboy will have more of the trub in it. As the beer flows it gets lighter. I've noticed no difference in the finished beers. I wouldn't sweat it.
