I don't anything about TOR. I looked at it briefly but it appears you need to download something and use someone else's private proxies (volunteered bandwidth). I didn't look too much into the weeds to see what it uses on the client to establish external connections. I don't think my Mom could figure out TOR either.

Your mom sounds very much like my mom (and most of the rest of my family for that matter). She calls all the time for technical assistance. She understands about half of the words she uses.
