Anyone have any expirence with apartment size fridges? I am offered one for free, it is 5'5" tall or so, but that is all I know. I can't seem to get any pics or model info for it from the person. I was wondering how many kegs people get into this size fridge? My choice is get that for free or pay 100 for a full size like new maytag fridge with bottom freezer. Any tips?

I have an apartment sized fridge. It's smaller than 5'5'', though- like maybe 5' tall. I fit two kegs and a co2 tank in it. It's about 3/4 of the size of a regular fridge, but it's narrower, too.

That seems like it might do for me, not sure what the advantage of the 100 dollar fridge would be, unless I want to try and squeeze 4 in there. I think that can wait... What do you use the freezer part for? Is it big enough to fit anything in?

Yes, you could use the freezer, except it's not really separated from the fridge, so it's cold, but not really suitable for freezing most things. You could store some extra hops but not long term. It's not as cold as a "regular" separate freezer. I don't use mine at all anymore- it frosts up alot if you open it often.

sanyo 4912 is perfect, and actually clears up cabinet space cause I keep all my glasses on top. Search craigslist until you can score one... I ended up with a 4910 for $65.

Yeah I am pretty sure they dont make the 4912 anymore so craigslist is gona be your best bet (I scored mine for $50 :p). But I free fridge sounds pretty good to me.

I had a smaller fridge in one of my apartments. It sounds like it was the size your talking about and it had a separate freezer part that you could fit a good amount of stuff in. Im not sure how many kegs could have fit in it. I would say the height of the fridge part might be your worst enemy.

Can't go wrong with free- Hopefully it works out for you! If not, you should be able to make a couple bucks off it (or use it as fermentation chamber). Let us now how it goes, and happy brewing!

Just picked it up, early I know but I was excited :) I hauled it around myself, into my basement, it was a chore :) But it was free, like you said. It will fit 2 cornys in it, and I believe the C02 also. It isn't in perfect shape, it needs to be cleaned and there is a few spots of light rust showing through. I am thinking of spray painting it with that chalkboard spray paint, I will have to be carfull because it is already in the basement :). I didn't plug it in yet, still letting the bleach do its job inside. I am thinking tonight or tomorrow I will clean it out the rest of the way and then plug it in to test it.
Another part of the project, partially complete :). Pics to follow...

Great! I would still advise grinding the rust and hitting it with some appliance paint to seal it before you go with the chalkboard paint (don't forget to add some ventilation while doing so!). Can't wait for your beer porn pics!

Ventilation, who needs ventilation :) I will probably sand it down a bit and hit it with a primer spray paint. Any suggestion on how to cut the holes I need in it? I just looked again, they are going to have to go out the door, as a tower would be WAY too high, the fridge is more like 4.5' tall, but it will do the job. Also need suggestions on where to buy shanks for it, I have one from a prior project...
