OK, I've read a ton.. i'm a big nerd and I sit at a computer all day..
I've been brewing and not "crash cooling" I read about some guys that put it outside to cool (in a sealed and sanitized ale pail) and in the morning, bring it in and pitch the yeast.. *i know this is going to make some people emotional
So I gave it a shot, on my last AG light beer, after the boil, straight in the pail, in the am/lunchtime i high poured into a sanitized bottling bucket, pitched the yeast and high poured back into the fermenter.. 10 days in primary, 2 weeks in secondary, and at bottling on Saturday it tasted great.. so I tried it again with a Murphy's clone.. (the amount of time saved is great)
And now for my next trick ! Washing yeast !! I'm going to give it a shot, and see if I can build up a strong starter (I've been reading the sticky AND the wiki !)
So last but not least - a question !!!
I built a stir plate, i want to pull some wort off after the boil, and crash cool it, then pitch the yeast and put it on the stirplate while the pail is cooling outside.. then in the morning/lunchtime, I should have a fancy pants starter to drop in my newly chilled wort, right ?? .. How much wort should I use for the starter? What should I put it in that's cheap?? I've seen a 1 gallon cider bottle with an airlock..does that sound like a plan ?? 4 cups of wort ?
Thanks for your help !
