That's why I prefer starsan. It's non staining.

I used my old bucket on my last batch, I guess that it is about 30 years old. It works fine. The biggest concern is not the color but if you have it clean. That is very possible but once it is scratched up it is tougher and is more of a concern.

True. However, if you keg, you can mix up 5 gallons, pressurize the keg and it will last for quite some time.
