Just did a Pumpkin Ale - had a hard time finding pumpkin. Grabbed the smaller baking pumpkins from the local farmer's market.
 
Many have come to the consensus that the canned pumpkin (100% pumpkin, no flavoring, no artificial anything) produces a better taste. I have only brewed with canned pumpkins but would like to try whole ones. It is just much more work.

p.s.- use a lot of rice hulls.
