i just brewed an alt using a long trail ale recipee:
8 0z munich
8 oz malted wheat
8 oz meddium crystal
6 pounds light dme
8 aaus tettnag
1007 german ale yeast

the recipee says to ferment for two weeks 62-65 and then cold condition in the secondary at 40 degrees for 3-4 weeks

my cold conditing is going to be at about 58 (coldest spot in the house)

What will the warmer secondary do to the beer i know alts are lagered but i used the german ale yeast. Im not looking for an exact clone of the longtrail so if the taste is slightly different thats not a big deal. If it will result in a bad taste i guess ill find someway to get it colder.

IMO, you won't get a bad taste. But you won't get that characteristically smooth lager"ish" taste associated with very cold lagering times. You will still have a good beer, though.

I would not sweat it one bit. Give it 3-4 weeks near 50 and 3-4 in the keg or bottle cold and it will be great.
