IMO, the best scene is when ray liotta walks across the street and pistol whips the neighbor who was harassing his girl and then talking trash.

This post is relevant to this forum b/c i was drinking homebrew when i developed my opinion.:tank:

Nah...

Although that is a very good scene....

The best, however, is when Tommy come back and kills Billy Batts after he keeps telling him to go get his ****ing shinebox! :D

Just a great movie all the way around. I'd say what jumped to my head is the scene where they eat dinner at Pesci's moms after the killing and Pesci says he needs the butcher knife to cut the leg off a deer that they hit with the car. Such a ridiculous story and she is like, sure take it. I guess in a movie loaded with lotsa good gang violence, the comedy stands out for me.

Of course I love where he shoots the guy dead who is serving them drinks after he mouths off for being shot in the foot earlier as well. That scene is violent and funny. :)

Especially the way in which they describe it. "the foot" "the paw" "the hoof"

And now Spider is doing Cuervo 1800 commercials. And he's all growns up!

+1, i worship when he calls it a paw and a hoof.

also love that part when the mom is telling the story about the old man and his wife.. "oh you, you're always talking"

i also love any scene when joe pesci's character calls ray liotta "henjri"

For comedy: It's gotta be when they're diggin up the body, Henry is pukin' and Tommy says something like "Hey here's a leg. Here's a wing"

For pure badassness: the "F**k you, pay me" scene.

For technical merit: the long tracking shot when Henry and Karen are on their date at the Copa.

Really....any scene in this movie could be the best scene. But i'll explain why this one is the best.

it's the best b/c Ray Liotta does exactly what every single one of us has wanted to do to some a$$hole who deserved it at some point....he did exactly what we all wanted him to do....at that moment in the film, i lived vicariously thru Ray Liotta.......after the scene my heart was beating fast and the adrenaline was flowing........it really just made me want to go pistol whip the $hit out of the first person i saw. I think we all like to see people get what they deserve and that's why the scene was so satisfying.

And how did Scorsese not win in 1990 for this movie?!?!!?

yeah, for real, it was best picture in my mind. Dances with Wolves took it that year....which i can understand, that movie was great too. how is it tho that Kevin Costner has only made one good film in his entire career. All the rest of his movies suck, he can't act worth a damn, yet somehow, he made this one really good movie, albeit long and at times, a little boring.

For comedy: Ray Liotta's laugh, it's freaking hysterical. If only i could laugh like that. Pure genius

Cant forget...

He had this wonderful system for doing the garlic. He used a razor and he used to slice it so thin that it used to liquefy in the pan with just a little oil. It was a very good system.

I think about this every time I touch garlic. But to me the best scene is when Jimmy is choking Morrie, his wing comes off, and Henry's laughing his ass off.

"Henry, you're a good kid, I've been good to you, you've been good to me. But there's something really unreasonable going on here. Jimmy's being an unconsionable ball-breaker. I never agreed to 3 points on top of the vig! Am I something special? Some sort of schmuck on wheels?"-Morrie

You know that was Scorsese's mom playing that part? And...

..that was totally ad-lib. Scorsese just told his mom "start talking.. tell us a story" and started to film.

Me too. Every time.

yup, and when JOE said hurry up, my mom's having peppers and sausage was classic! yeah I'm a dago

How about early on when young Henry get busted selling cigs. I love when he gets out of court and all the wise guys greet him with a hero's welcome..."You broke your cherry!!"

I also love the scene where Henry's driving around coked out of his mind and he keeps looking up at the helicopter. The Stones tune is perfect for that scene.

And when he gets busted his response on the street is "no, it's okay."

I've actually used that a time or two to get out of ****. It's worked more times than not :D

And the look on Liotta's face walking back is SICK!

My favorite scene has always been when Jimmy is choking Morrie. I especially like how DeNiro continues saying TA-DAY, and Morrie is suddenly very compliant:rockin:

Yeah... she plays the mom in the store in Casino as well...

My favorite part is also when he kills Billy Batz. I couldnt stand that guy. A couple of other great parts is when Tommy kills spider b/c they are instigating him and when Henry goes home to the parents all late and the mother in law is screaming what kind of man comes home at this hour and he is all tore up and he just turns and leaves and Tommy is mimicking the Jewish mother in law.

Maybe an HBT first...we all agree on something....that "Goodfellas" is freakin' awesome!

yeah that last scene you mentioned with the mother-in-law is awesome because Ray Liotta starts doing the hysterical Ray Liotta laugh. I've actually done that once (minus all the mafia stuff), it was completely awesome, and i just drove away as i was laughing, best feeling ever. (sorry, let me state that it wasn't my wife and that it wasn't dawn and i hadn't done anything wrong, but the rest of the stuff was the same)

"What do ya mean, funny? Let me understand this cause, I don't know maybe it's me, I'm a little ****ed up maybe, but I'm funny how? I mean, funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh... I'm here to ****in' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?"

They are both excellent scenes.

Let's say it another way. Name me any 5-minute span within the movie that you think should have been cut out because it didn't reek of awesomeness.

There is a really short list of movies that can be said about. I nominate "The Blues Brothers" as one of them.

I don't want to start any tension here, but i definitely put Gran Torino in that category as well. I don't know how that didn't win an oscar.

The best scene is where karen goes to visit jimmy and he tries to get her to pick up some dresses, but she is too scared, great camera work, and we really understand how scared she is even though it doesn't really make sense. Scorsese genius.

I like the scene where he goes to pick up the cut coke and as he puts the last package into his bag he runs off real quick and teases the chick with a mischeivous laugh. She chucks her share of the coke at him, which hits the door as it slams shut and flies everywhere. You know in real life she would be snorting coke off the carpet for days.

I love the long scene where they're introducing everyone. "There was Vinny No-Nose, Pete the Killer ("Hey, I took care of that thing for ya.") Nicky Eyes, Jimmy Two-Times, ("I gotta go get the papers. Get the papers.")"
