I am NOT a big buyer of commercial micro brews.
I bought this small selection because (A) I wanted to know what everyone else was talking about (B) I wanted to try some of those that I never see mentioned here (C) My wife just bought $200 worth of make up, so i had the justification.
If I may, I would just like to witter on about my opinion of these beers as I try them. Feel free to add your comments, just don't expect me to listen.
Perhaps I should explain first that I am IN NO WAY A CONNYTHINGY OF BEER!! I drink bitter, and I only really brew to drink biter. I like bitter. I can drink bitter till I die.....So my tastes are totally biased. I can do nothing about that, so it is up to you to deal wih it. Don't try to tell me that I should try putting strawberries in my beer, because I don't want to have to kill you. (Yes, I know, there is a raspberry lambic in there)
For better or worse, I bought these.
the port, oh yeah, I love port, but it ain't beer, move along.
Dead guy Rogue
Stones IPA
DFH 60 min IPA
Old Rasputin RIS
DFH Indian Brown Ale
Arrogant Bastard
Wychwood Scarecrow (Not in pic)
I tried the Scarecrow on Saturday. t was OK, but not to my tastes. I didn't enjoy the hop aroma (target... a bit tart), and it seemed a little over carbed to me. Somehow, it just didn't gel into a well balanced drinking experience.
Later that day I shared the Arrogant Bastard with my SIL. This was an excellent beer! It was strong and well balanced. It was a lot more malty than I come to expect from American craft brews. It was solid throughout in it's strenghth of character. My only complaint would be the price. I can buy good scotch ale for half the price that would give me equal pleasure to this brew....Also, I didn't appreciate how the wording on the bottle tried to tell me what o think! I am MUCH more arrogant than Arrogant Bastard!!
I'll get to the others over the next week. I'm especially looking forward to the RIS
