In my excitement to bottle my first batch of beer, I racked over my priming sugar before taking a final gravity reading.

The measured FG was 1.014. The final volume was 5.8 US Gallon (22 Litres) and I added 1 cup of corn sugar. How much did this increase my gravity reading? Is my only hope to let a sample go flat after it's done conditioning and take a new measurement?

Thank you

You want to take a reading before adding your priming sugar, you did it correctly. Taking one after would give you an incorrect reading because of having more sugars dissolved in it.

Priming hardly adds any ABV maybe .5% max?

I may get a few slaps on the wrist for saying this, but I have never paid attention to my gravity readings. Only when I'm just curious because the hydrometer came with my kit.. Priming sugar would only add about 0.002 to your gravity.

Don't worry one bit about your beer.

Priming sugar would only add about 0.002 to your gravity.

so 1.048 to 1.014 = 4.46% ABV
minus the 0.002 is 1.012 as the FG for 4.73% ABV
minus the 0.002 again once the sugar is gone is 1.010 for 4.99% ABV

ok, 1 more week and the drinking can begin :mug:

Thank you so mutch.
