I'm guessing that this goes into the wine section and not the cider section... I have no idea what I'm doing.

I was just handed 9 pounds of very old very dry dates (maybe about a year and a half old). These dates are not pitted and I think one of the boxes smells a little vinegary.

My plan is to put all these dates into a few gallons of water and boil them. While boiling I was going to be mashing them with a potato masher to try and dilute them/the sugars as much as possible. Then I would pour everything through a strainer into a fermentation vessel and add some yeast (wine yeast probably).

If this sounds like a good idea then I will do it and take some pictures. I have never made anything other than beer and apfelwein so if you have any input please do not hesitate to post it.
