I'm new, but this can't be an original idea . . .

how about using a sanitized fine nylon mesh bag, or a smaller piece cut from one, use a sanitized rubber band to secure it to the bottom of the racking cane.

Great in theory, but would it work in practice?

Anyone tried it?

I have heard that if you use some sanitized coper wire to secure it it may stay better and the copper wire is much easier to sanitize. Just make sure to wire it tightly. I have heard some people using filters with their racking cane. Coffee filter should work fine but I would only suggest this if you have an autosiphon pump as it might stop the normal grav fed siphon.

Should work fine, just sanitize it as well as you can.
I have a small black end that goes on the racking cane that is rounded on the bottom and lets it sit on the lees with and it flows into the top. If I want a super fine rack, I crash chill the carboy and throw some cheese cloth between the two.
