I tried to do a Pale Ale today that I formulated on BeerSmith...

10lbs 2row
.75lbs crystal 10L
.5lb Vienna
1oz Pearle 7.9% 60min
.5oz US Saaz 5.8% 30min
.5oz US Saaz 5.8% 2min
.5oz US Saaz 5.8% dry hop
Wyeast German Ale #1007

I tried to get a final wort volume 5.5gal, well I got 4.75 final volume:confused: I know under shot the water. With a OG of ~1.060 and I was going for 1.054... So I added a couple bottles of drinking water to the cooled wort.

My question is, is that bad to do? I got a final volume of about 5.10gal into the fermenter with a OG of ~1.052 Will this taste ok?
Thanks

No, it's fine to do that. Once you know your system, you can account for more boil off and just start with more wort. But you are within .002 of your desired OG now, so I'd say that's really great!

Should be no problem at all. I've topped off with tap water before without any issues. Looking back I wouldn't recommend it w/ out boiling first, just because my tap water has a lot of chlorine in it. Using bottled water is better than tap IMHO.

Edit: Damn my slow fingers!
