Tasting Notes
Best IIPA I have brewed. The only complaint is that it never cleared.
This is taken from Can You Brew It. I got a lot more pine from the Simcoe/Chinook than the original, so it isn't that close of a clone. But, it is delicious nonetheless.

Are you aware that they have recipes for every one of their beers right off their website? Looks like you're not TOO far off, and that they indeed DO use Columbus for both 60 and 30 additions.

Nickmv, thanks for the info. I was not aware that Avery has some of its recipes on its website. I got this one from Can You Brew It. Unfortunately, Avery does not have Dugana, which I prefer over Maharaja.

The next time I brew the Maharaja, I will definitely adjust my grain bill based on Avery's recipe, but I don't think I will touch the hop schedule because the bitterness and aroma were amazing.

I gotta be honest, I love the Dugana much more as well. It's a shame they don't have it listed. Do they still make it?

I brewed the recipe off Avery's website a couple weeks ago. I will report back once I have it carbed up in the bottles.

I used the one off Avery's website and I didn't have the boil off I expected so it came out a little off, only 8.4% but I don't think I'd change a thing. This beer has gotten me more compliments than any other I've made and friends like almost all my beers.
Another seasoned home brew told me "this is the best home brewed beer I've ever had". I hate to blow my own horn but it's hard to pass by the kegerator and not take a taste. Freakin awesome beer in every way.

I'm going to try DuganA in a future brew.

I had a similar experience with the recipe off the website. To hit the og, I set my efficiency down to 60% instead of boiling for longer.

I bottle carbonated. It took 4 weeks to carb up. Still had plenty of hop character though. It was a little hot (alcohol) taste at first but mellowed out nicely by week 6. It is still good at week 10 (only a few bottles left though). I will definitely brew again.
