I've seen that it is better to buy raw honey but I'm trying to be cheap for my first batch. Could I use the cheap stuff and flavor with fruit, probably raspberry, and still have a decent end product?

Yes, you can, it will still make a tasty drink, it will just never be as good as one made with a better honey. I wouldn't assume that supermarket honey is cheaper. So far I've found go direct to the bee keeper much cheaper even for fairly small amounts.

I use cheapo honey in experimental JAOM-type brews just to get a feel for how it would taste with BETTER honey. So far so good, and I've got a few really drinkable products out of it. See my Cyser recipe elsewhere for a drink with bread yeast, cheap apple juice, and crappy honey that turned out darn tootin good.
