Anyone know what cranberry juice OG is, or how to calculate? Also, how much makes sense for a 5 gallon batch.

100% cranberry juice is 7 grams of sugar, 14 grams of carbohydrates per cup, so a quart is 28 grams of sugar and 56 grams of carbohydrates. Not a lot. I may try concentrate, but the only stuff I've seen includes other juices, not just cranberry.

yeah its damn hard to find real cranberry juice and not 'juice cocktail'.

pure cranberry juice is wickedly tart stuff.

Ive purchased just pure cranberry juice at both Publixs and Fresh Market. The name of it escapes me at the moment.. but as malkore said it is really really tart.

Hi folks,
I just started fermenting a gallon of Oceanspray cranberry juice. I started it Sept. 21st and it was an angry ferment. Bubble lock had to be filled twice with water. Today it is simmering down. Supposedly like Welchs grape wine, 5 days is alll you need. But I will let it sit longer before racking it.

1 Gallon of Oceanspray Cranberry juice
1 1/4 cups of sugar
Lalvin Borgouvin yeast
1 tsp. of yeast nutrient

I will let you know what is tastes like while I am doing the first racking.

Oh PS. Decided not to do gravity reading, no science in this one.
