I went small and simple to showcase the hops in my 2nd annual harvest IPA.
All the bines involved were first year except for a 2nd year cascade without whom the whole thing would have been a joke. (like my first year IPA that had about 3 IBUs)
8 lbs pale 2 row
1 lb crystal 20L
2 lbs honey
11 cups or so of fresh CASCADE hops
(3 cups 90 minutes 3 cups 60 minutes, 1 cup at 30, 20, 10, and flameout.)
1 cup total of Magnum, northern brewer, fuggles, mt hood, hallertaur, willamette, and saaz. All but the magnum at flameout, magnum was in at 90 minutes with the cascade first addition.
Dry Hopped with 3 cups cascade (fresh).
WL Irish Ale Yeast
It may sound like a ton of hops, but they were whole, fresh, and loose packed.
It is a slightly sweet ale. Not a ton of hop flavor, but it is there.
It has a little more bitterness than your typical IPA.
Mission accomplished! A respectable brew completely made with homegrown hops.
Stay tunes for next year.
It will either be enough for one IPA that would put ruination on it's back, or several respectable brews.
